On 10 October 2024, the ASEAN Competent Authority Committee on Surveying (ACACS) officially appointed the ASEAN Federation of Land Surveying and Geomatics (AFLAG) to serve as the ACACS Secretariat. The Secretariat will be led by Mr. Shaharuddin bin Musa, who is also the current President of AFLAG.
As the newly appointed Secretariat, AFLAG is now responsible for promoting, administering, and managing the registry of ASEAN Registered Surveyors (ARS).
This appointment marks a significant milestone in the history of regional surveying collaboration. ACACS has been mandated by ASEAN and the wider ASEAN surveying community to serve as the leading body in implementing the ASEAN Framework Arrangement for the Mutual Recognition of Surveying Qualifications (MRA).
According to the report from the 30th Meeting of the Competent Authorities (dated 19 November 2022), and as presented to the Business Services Sectoral Working Group (BSSWG) on 20 November 2020 and the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Services (CCS) on 7 December 2020, ACACS confirmed that it holds a sufficient mandate to begin the registration of ASEAN Registered Surveyors (ARS) and Registered Foreign Professional Surveyors (RFPS).
With this strong foundation, AFLAG’s role as Secretariat will further strengthen the coordination and implementation of the ARS and RFPS programs across ASEAN.
